Ikebana: Rose and Chrysanthemum Flowers and Camellia Leaves

Greetings from Kyoto

I pruned a camellia bush in the garden and found myself with a heap of beautiful waxy green camellia leaves. Thinking ‘mottainai‘, I put them in a vase in my living room. After a few days, I decided to get some flowers from the florist to accompany them. One thing I realized when I studied ikebana (the art of flower arrangement) is that Japanese really appreciate leaves and flower leaves about as much as the flowers themselves. Interesting.

I studied ikebana for three and a half years. It was REALLY interesting and I experienced a completely unique kind of creativity.
