Painter in the Tadasu-no-Mori Forest, chatting with shrine groundskeeper .
Greetings from Kyoto
This morning, while I was biking home, I passed through the ‘Tadasu-no-Mori’ Forest, on the grounds of UNESCO World Heritage Site, Shimogamo Shrine. This is the area of the Shrine where the Yabusame, a mounted archery ceremony, is performed in association with Kyoto’s spring time Aoi Matsuri Festival.
Up ahead of me, I noticed a painter painting the new green foliage. A bit behind him was one of the shrine goundskeepers dressed in traditional Shinto costume holding his rake, taking a break and chatting with the painter. I quietly stopped behind them, took out my phone and snapped a photo!
